A project worth Tk 15,000 crore is in preparation for the construction of a bay terminal in Chittagong.

A bay terminal will be built at Chittagong Port. A project worth about 15,000 crore taka is being taken to build supporting infrastructure for the construction of this terminal. As a result, the capacity of Chittagong Port will further increase.

The Bay Terminal Marine Infrastructure Development Project worth 14,909 crore taka will be up for approval at the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting tomorrow, Sunday.

Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus will preside over the ECNEC meeting to be held at the NEC conference room of the Planning Commission. If this supporting project for the construction of the bay terminal is passed, it will be one of the biggest projects taken up by the current interim government.

According to Planning Commission sources, the Chittagong Port Authority will implement this project from April 2025 to June 2031. This project will be in the Anandabazar area of ​​North Halishahar. Under this project, sea breakwater and navigation channel facilities will be built. In addition, all infrastructure and service facilities including rail, road will also be built.

The World Bank will provide Tk 10,272 crore for this project and the government’s own financing will be Tk 4,637 crore.

It is known that three bay terminals will be constructed in the Chittagong port area. Of these, two will be constructed through public-private partnership (PPP) and one will be constructed by the Chittagong Port Authority.

To meet the growing demand at Chittagong Port, the Chittagong Port Authority prepared a strategic master plan in 2015. There was talk of constructing a bay terminal. A study was also conducted on this. However, some infrastructure is required for the construction of the bay terminal; a separate project was taken for its construction.
