The conflict between the people of Israel and the Palestinians is one of the longest-running and most violent conflicts in the world. It began more than a century ago.
Over this long period, Israel and Arab countries have fought several wars. There has been an anti-Israel uprising by Palestinians known as the ‘Intifada’, and there have been Israeli reprisals and repression against Palestinians.
The Palestinians, who have been oppressed by Israel over their land, borders and rights, are still suffering the consequences of their historic conflict with Israel. The most recent result is the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
