A.F.M Asad Ullah: In the first four months of 2025, 52 drug dealers were arrested by the police in Madhabpur, Habiganj. A huge amount of drugs were recovered. 33 Madhabpur cases have been filed in these incidents.
It is known that from January to April this year, the police of Madhabpur Police Station have recovered a total of 307 kg 500 grams of marijuana, 142 pieces of yaba, 77 bottles of phensidyl and 26 bottles of Indian liquor. The amount of marijuana recovered is almost double compared to the same period last year. It is known that the number of drug recoveries has increased due to increased public awareness.
Nurul Hasan Topu, a member of Ward No. 9 of Noapara Union in the upazila, said that drug gatherings used to take place every day in the tea garden east of Chhatiain Railway Station in our area, but now due to the strict stance of the police, this area and Noapara Union have become drug-free.
Teliapara Tea Garden Panchayat President Khokon Tanti said, earlier we were suffering from the pain of drug addicts’ cars and motorcycles in our garden. A few days ago, a courtyard meeting was held at the initiative of Madhabpur Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun. Since then, the police and BGB have worked to eradicate drugs with the help of the local people. Now the activity of drug addicts has reduced a lot.
Shajahanpur Union Parishad Chairman Md. Parvez Hossain Chowdhury said, due to the activities of the police and BGB, the number of drug dealers and drug addicts has reduced a lot. However, the activity on the outpost roads needs to be increased further.
Chaumuhani Union Parishad Chairman Mahbubur Rahman Sohag said, after August 5, the drug menace in our area had increased a lot due to the inaction of the police and BGB. However, in the last few months, several courtyard meetings have been held at the initiative of Madhabpur Police Station OC and the police and BGB have taken a strict stand against drugs. As a result, the drug menace has reduced a lot in the last few months.
Madhabpur Police Station OC Abdullah Al Mamun said, I have given utmost importance to drug eradication after taking charge. Under the direction of the Habiganj Police Superintendent, I have held yard meetings at 20 important spots including Teliapara Tea Garden, Teliapara (Noahati) Market, Harashpur Railway Station, Maujpur Market, West Madhabpur Phuchkabari, Jagdishpur Temunia to raise public awareness about building a society free from drugs, terrorism, militancy, property-related crimes, incitement to suicide, cybercrime, road accidents, juvenile crime, women abuse, eve-teasing and child marriage. In each yard meeting, I have given my mobile phone number to the local people. They can contact me directly for any issue or information. As long as I am here, I will not let any drug dealer live in peace. They will either give up the drug business or leave the area.
